Zucca Rabarbaro Amaro Liqueur has a storied history that dates back to 1845, originating as a digestive aid concocted by a homeopathic doctor. Ettore Zucca, captivated by this unique blend of ingredients, added alcohol to the mix, thereby creating the Zucca Rabarbaro. This homemade spirit soon became a signature liquor of Milan’s distinguished society.
In a nod to its origins, Zucca Rabarbaro has been re-launched, staying true to the original recipe but with a revitalized flavor and a more potent kick at 30% alcohol. This modern interpretation boasts a sweet, medicinal aroma, leading into a bright bitterness. The palate transitions from thick molasses flavors to a lightly smoky sweetness, culminating in a pleasingly spiced finish. This delicate and unusual drink has won acclaim among aperitif connoisseurs, and its enhanced alcohol content makes it an excellent base for cocktails.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: The aroma is complex and herbaceous, featuring rhubarb and orange, intertwined with smoky bacon notes. The scent is rounded off with gentle herbal spice, and undertones of faint liquorice and aniseed add to its intriguing profile.
Palate: On the palate, Zucca Rabarbaro is bittersweet, with flavors of cola and burnt toffee at the forefront. This is complemented by the taste of bitter bark and zesty orange. Chocolate notes add a layer of richness, while a merest hint of vegetable brings a unique dimension to the liqueur.
Finish: The finish of Zucca Rabarbaro is a lasting bittersweet sensation, leaving behind a candy orange taste that seamlessly merges with an herbal aftertaste.
